You can play a big role supporting your child in their educational orientation. You can do so at home, but also in school, in your community, through your work or that of your family and friends.

Some tips

  • Entrust them with chores and family responsibilities.
  • Encourage them to acquire positive habits and attitudes, such as punctuality and perseverance.
  • Talk to them about their studies and their future.
  • Allow them to verbalize their plans.
  • Have them reflect on their strengths and their abilities.

  • Contact the Personal Orientation Project teacher or guidance counsellor.
  • Consult your school, school board or school service centre website.
  • Offer your time to talk about your own trade or profession during a theme day.
  • Volunteer to accompany their class on a school trip.

  • Arrange a visit to your workplace, or that of a friend or family member.
  • Encourage your child to find employment for a few hours per week.
  • Invite them to volunteer, perform internships, attend conferences, etc.
